Donald Trump equates dyslexia with low intelligence, raising concerns about whether such statements reflect ignorance or deliberate misinformation—both troubling traits in a leader.
As you probably heard, President Trump has just accused California Governor Newsom of having a low IQ because he has dyslexia. Well, firstly, any intelligent and informed human being would know that dyslexia has nothing to do with low IQ; on the contrary, it is often associated with higher cognitive abilities. So is Trump innocently ignorant, or is he being purposely untruthful? Neither of these characteristics are desirable in a president.
Furthermore, Trump falsely referred to Gavin Newsom as “President of the United States.” Again, was he just being plain dumb, deliberately misleading, or was that dementia creeping in? Again, not desirable traits for a president either.
However, perhaps a grain of truth to come from this slinging match is that low IQ is certainly a very dangerous characteristic for any president, especially when we need them to navigate us out of a war.
So how about putting your money where your mouth is, Mr. Trump, and take an intelligence test yourself?
Come to think of it, why not make intelligence tests mandatory for all politicians? Not the old type, which are just based on class, memory, and cultural knowledge, but new ones which measure creative problem solving, the ability to grasp the bigger picture, foresee the long-term consequences of one’s actions, and most importantly—but which is still taboo in politics and yet most valued in human beings—compassion and love.
This is the political proposition described by Maitreya Rael, founder of the International Raelian Movement, in his book Geniocracy.
After all, who wants to be led merrily down the path of global destruction by leaders of low IQ?
